Vocal Production Course for Music Producers and Self-Produced Artists

Unlock the full potential of your vocal tracks with our Vocal Production Course designed specifically for music producers and self-produced artists using Ableton Live. Over six weeks, you will dive deep into the art of vocal production, from capturing the perfect performance to crafting a polished, professional sound specific to the genres you work in.

This course offers two flexible formats to suit your schedule and learning preferences:

  • In-Studio Classes: 6 weekly sessions of 3.5 hours each, providing hands-on experience with state-of-the-art equipment in a collaborative environment.
  • Online Classes: 6 weekly sessions of 2.5 hours each, with live, interactive instruction and access to a virtual studio setup.

 

Throughout the course, you will learn to:

  • Record and edit high-quality vocal takes.
  • Use advanced vocal processing techniques to enhance clarity, presence, and emotion.
  • Apply creative spatial and modulation effects to shape unique vocal sounds.
  • Layer and harmonise vocals to add depth and impact.
  • Mix and master vocals to achieve a balanced, professional sound that cuts through any mix.
  • Receive personalised feedback and expert guidance on your vocal mixes.

In-Studio

6 weeks, part-time

  • 3.5 hours per class session
  • Schedule: Tuesday evenings
  • Time: 6pm – 9pm (5:30 pre-game)
  • +2hrs a week at-home exercises
  • Location: Liveschool, Sydney

Taught by iconic vocal producer and Ninajirachi + vocal specialist Kota Banks, Tim Watt, alongside guest vocalists and producers, our course offers a personalised experience for each participant:

  1. Small class size: a maximum of 10 students per group ensures a balance of custom coaching and learning from the results of others.
  2. Genre-specific: vocal mix techniques hyper-focused to the genres and styles you’re working in.
  3. Developing your custom vocal chains: Tim and guests share their vocal chains while co-developing bespoke chains for your specific sound and style.
  4. Coaching on your mixes: As the course progresses, you’re applying the techniques to your own mixes, with coaching from the trainers on how to get the best results in your own Ableton projects.

Delivery

Optimised for maximum learning results, your training is a blend of the following formats:

  • Class sessions: hands-on learning with expert producers in groups of 10 students.
  • Study sessions: at-home exercises and reference materials for self-paced exploration.
  • Industry Masterclasses: guest producers, collaborations and networking sessions.
  • Artist Support: our team is on-call full time for creative or technical assistance.

Location:

The course can be taken either in-person at our world-class studio facilities in Sydney, or in live online sessions from anywhere in the world.

FAQ

What skills and preparation do I need before taking this course?

Skill Requirements:

  • Proficiency in editing and using automation features in Ableton Live.
  • Understanding of how to use an Equaliser (EQ) device.
  • Familiarity with operating a Compressor device.

Equipment Requirements:

  • Ableton Live 12 Suite (a trial version is acceptable).
  • A pair of headphones.

Ableton Projects:

  • At least one song or project you are currently developing.

Do I need to buy anything before the course starts?

No, you don’t need to purchase anything before the course begins. Throughout the course, we will cover various plugins and VSTs, all of which are compatible with both Mac and PC and available as free downloads. You will be introduced to these tools gradually, so there’s no need to install anything in advance.


What happens if I can’t attend a class?

  • In-person students: You can switch to an online session if you’re unable to attend in person.
  • Access study resources: Detailed study materials and exercises are available online, so you can catch up from home.
  • Discounted one-on-one sessions: Available for students enrolled in the course who wish to catch up on missed material. Note that this offer is exclusive to enrolled students and is not available separately from the course.

Are instalment plans available?

Yes, we offer instalment plans! Start with an initial deposit, followed by manageable monthly payments. Please note that early enrolment is required (check the instalment plan deadline) to ensure your course fees are fully paid by the end of the course.
