An essentials course in Ableton Live and the fundamentals of music production.

Attendance options: in-studio or online.

This 12 week part-time course is comprised of small-group classes and 1-to-1 mentorship. It contains three modules studied in the following order:

  • Begin: Fundamental skills.
  • Remix: Working with audio, video, MIDI and effects.
  • Create:  The fundamentals of drum production, harmony, sound design and mixing.

Students attain a competency with Ableton Live to the point of being able to create and experiment freely. This course is ideal for beginners, or for those switching to Ableton from another DAW. If your goal is to complete full songs, consider the Produce Music course.

No matter where you stand on your musical journey, from an absolute beginner to a seasoned record producer new to Ableton Live, our course offers a personalised experience for each participant:

  1. Orientation Workshop: Your journey begins with an Orientation workshop for developing your musical vision. Together with your mentor, you’ll set clear milestones, paving the way for a focused and customised learning experience.
  2. Holistic Development: As you progress through the classes you’ll not only develop your songs but also delve deep into the realms of music creation. Acquiring a thorough knowledge of Ableton Live as you go, you’ll gain competency in the foundational skills of drum production, remixing, music creation, sound design and mixing. This comprehensive approach ensures a well-rounded skill set to gain confidence and fluency expressing your ideas in music.
  3. Personal Mentorship: after the core skills are learned you switch from class-weeks to mentor-weeks where you receive 1-to-1 mentor guidance on your music projects.

What skills or experience do I need to have before taking this course?

No prior experience in music or advanced technology skills are necessary. Basic computer skills (navigation, opening, saving, etc) are enough to get started. The course covers everything else you’ll need.

Do I need to buy anything before I start the course?

Just two things are required:

  • A copy of Ableton Live. First-time users can access a free 30-day license, and when you’re ready to purchase, you’ll receive a 40% discount.
  • A standard pair of wire-connected headphones (not Bluetooth-only).

A laptop is useful, but if you only have a desktop, we can provide a laptop on-site. While you’ll explore various equipment and plugins, you won’t need to purchase anything; you can create professional tracks with just Ableton Live and headphones.

What happens if I can’t make it to class?

We offer flexible options:

  1. Switch to an online session if you can’t attend in-person.
  2. Access detailed study resources at home if you miss a session. Discounted one-to-one sessions are available for in-person catch-ups.
  3. If you miss an entire module, join a waitlist to retake it at a later date.

Are Instalment Plans Available?

Yes, instalment plans are available. Start with a simple deposit followed by affordable monthly payments. For more detail visit: Foundations Module registrations
