The four core disciplines for completing release-ready music

The Focus Series combines our four ‘focus’ modules, sequenced in a perfectly-paced schedule to get you making release-ready music by the end of the series. The Focus Series is the Produce Music course without the Foundations module.

Attendance options: in-studio or online.

This 38 week part-time course is comprised of small-group classes and 1-to-1 mentorship. It contains four modules studied in the following order:

  1. Sound Design: Creating your signature sound through audio design and synthesis

  2. Music Theory: Effective techniques for writing compelling music

  3. Arrangements: Completing songs, using structural processes

  4. Mixing and Mastering: Elevating finished songs so they’re ready to release

Students leave with a thorough mastery of the Ableton Live software, a complete music production focused skill set, a portfolio of completed projects and everything they need to effectively produce release-ready music for themselves and others.

Required Knowledge: to undertake the Focus Series it is essential you have either done the Foundations module or have equivalent abilities in music production with Ableton Live.

The Focus Series course is also available in full-time format.

What skills or experience do I need to have before taking the Focus Series course?

To enrol in the Focus Series, you should meet one of the following criteria:

  • Completion of the Foundations module (which is included in the Produce Music course).
  • Equivalent skills in music production using Ableton Live, as covered in the Foundations module.

This course is suitable for those who are already generating compelling musical ideas, even if you haven’t completed full songs yet. Key prerequisites include fluency in Ableton Live, proficiency in MIDI programming, audio editing, and a basic understanding of sound design, music theory, and mixing.

If you’re unsure about your readiness, please reach out to our team. We are more than willing to help assess your skills and guide you on the right path.

Do I need to buy anything before I start the course?

Just two things are required:

  • A copy of Ableton Live. If you’ve been sharing a license you can access a free 30-day license, to get started and when you’re ready to purchase, you’ll receive a 40% discount.
  • A standard pair of wire-connected headphones (not Bluetooth-only).

A laptop is useful, but if you only have a desktop, we can provide a laptop on-site. While you’ll explore various equipment and plugins, you won’t need to purchase anything; you can create professional tracks with just Ableton Live and headphones.

What happens if I can’t make it to class?

We offer flexible options:

  1. Switch to an online session if you can’t attend in-person.
  2. Access detailed study resources at home if you miss a session. Discounted one-to-one sessions are available for in-person catch-ups.
  3. If you miss an entire module, join a waitlist to retake it at a later date.

Are Instalment Plans Available?
